Rotary round up this week

President's Piece, 07/03/2010

Hello again members and Friends of Rotary,

Sunday afternoon has crept up very quickly again, and I thought to get this newsletter done before I go out again, otherwise I will be typing with my eyes shut and falling asleep on the keyboard.

I hope all our members who are attending are geared for the conference, we were contemplating whether to fly or drive, but I think Len loves to drive, so we will be soaking up  the Pacific Highway for 5 hours. I have been rehearsing with the New Rotary choir "Rotary Voices" and I must say they sound great, and I have had alot of fun meeting the other Rotarians from the Upper North Shore. We are performing at the St Ives Garden Festival next sunday 14th March, which is a festival run by Kuringai Rotary. We will be performing at 3.30pm, if anyone would like to come please turn up to this festival. I will also be performing at this at 3pm with my show, incase anyone would like an afternoon out.

On Saturday night Trina Mosley, myself & Len & Lydia Scuglia attended the GSE Cruise fundraiser for the Outgoing German team (they were certainly outgoing!). We are sponsoring Dean Egger and they really put on a great night. 160 people attended including DG John & Margaret Cameron as well as DGN David Rands and wife Anne as well as my inpromptu singing companion, comedian of Rotary Theo Glockman who incidently is leading this group in Germany. See pictures below from Friday night

Kenneth our ROMAC patient is doing well and is staying at a hostel near Westmead hospital so he can go for post checkups from his operation. If anyone is available to visit Kenneth and Ari, please see myself or contact Rob Wilkinson from North Ryde, they will appreciate any visits.

Our Club will be represented again with North Ryde Rotary with the flashing lights project. I attended Truscott Street School North Ryde and MP Victor Dominello gave out appreciation certificates to our Clubs, and the Schools are so appreciative of the new flashing lights. This will be featured again in the Weekly Times.

Last week we had member Stuart Brand Macquarie Centre Westpac Manager and Regional Manager of Westpac Jeff Hurdis, who gave us a great insight in how Westpac can help and has helped in the Community with their sponsorship and volunteer days by their staff. We are confident this partnership will gel beautifully with our Club.

Also we are very sad to hear that Shayne Dumbrell (membership Director as well as Past President) and wife Lana will be moving to Orange next month. Shayne was one of the foundation members of Macquarie Park Rotary and I have to say also the backbone of this club. He would always produce the goods with his Avenue of Service he undertook. No doubt we will organise a big farewell night  for Shayne and Lana and our loss will be Orange Rotary's gain. Thank you for all you have done Shayne for this Club! more in the coming weeks.

This Tuesday morning our guest speaker will be speaking on projects in remote Africa, buiding water wells etc, should be an interesting and an eye opening talk.

See you all at breakkie this tuesday morning, and bring along a friend who would like to do more in the community! we need you.
